Dutchess Man Arrested For DWI Coming To Aid Of Family Member Also Charged

A man ended up in handcuffs for DWI after coming to the aid of a relative who had been arrested after crashing his truck in Red Hook on Thursday while driving drunk, according to Red Hook police.

Rolando Lopez, 21 of Rhinebeck, was arrested around 9 p.m. after crashing his pickup truck into a telephone pole at the entrance to Bard College on Route 9G, police said.

When police arrived they found Lopez had hit the pole and crashed more than 100 feet down an embankment, police added.

Lopez, who was not injured in the crash was interviewed on scene and found to be drunk and taken into custody. While on the scene, a relative identified as Abraham Lopez -De La Cruz, 42 of Rhinebeck arrived to assist but was also found to be driving while intoxicated, police said.

 He was also placed under arrest on scene and taken into custody. 

Both were charged with misdemeanor DWI, processed and released to a third party.

The Red Hook Police department was assisted on scene by the Red Hook Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
